Covenant Church of Mobile began in 1973 as “Gulf Coast Christian Fellowship” (GCCF) and consisted of home groups (house churches) along the Gulf Coast from South Mississippi through South Alabama into the panhandle of Florida. Charles Simpson, Glen Roachelle, John Duke, Jr., and Terry Parker were its founding pastors and first presbytery.

In 1976. the church offices were moved to Mobile, Alabama. “Covenant” became the focus of the church’s theology in recognition that God Himself is a covenant-making and covenant-keeping God. During the 1980s, Gulf Coast Christian Fellowship became Covenant Church of Mobile.

Covenant love is a quality of love that is self-sacrificing and enduring for the preservation of the common good. It is the quality that holds together. It is the motive of Christ’s death for our salvation and reconciliation, for the preservation of family life, and for the establishment and preservation of the church. It was the covenant love of Christ that called us together and has sustained us over the years.

In 1982, Covenant Church purchased property and began building at its present location, at the corner of Hitt and Cody Roads in Mobile, Alabama.
Throughout its existence, Covenant Church of Mobile has had seasons of different emphases while holding on to the faith that has been passed down to this generation. Practical Biblical teaching, worship, pastoral care, discipling, the Kingdom of God, family life, life together, and walking in the power of the Holy Spirit have all been core practices.

Additionally, Covenant Church has been home to international outreaches into other nations: Kenya Ministry Training Institute and Integrity Music are two of those. Locally, Covenant Church has been the home of Covenant Christian School, an outreach into the local community.

Until recently, CCM has been led by senior pastors. Beginning with the founding pastor Charles Simpson, other leaders have stepped into leadership in this order: Billy Duke, Robert Grant, Charles Simpson, Oliver Heath, Stephen Simpson, and Keith Currie. Currently, the church is led by a team of leaders who share the roles and responsibilities.
