Q & A

Q & A

1. WHY BELIEVE THE BIBLE?

The Bible itself is a library containing two main sections: Old Testament (Hebrew writings) and New Testament (Christian writings). The New Testament, in particular, contains the eyewitness testimonies of those who followed Jesus Christ in the flesh. Jesus is described as the “exact representation of God’s nature.” (Hebrews 1:3) He predicted that he would be killed and that he would rise from the dead on the third day. Then he did it. His disciple John wrote this:

We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us. We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy. (1 John 1:1-4)

The Bible is written so that we may believe that Jesus is the Son of the living God.

But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name. (John 20:31)

The truth of Jesus Christ is passed on from generation to generation by faithful people who live out the message taught in the words of scripture.

But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. ( NLT  2 Timothy 3:14-17)

2. WHO IS GOD?

These writings testify that there is only one God and that He is eternally existent in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  • God the Father

God the Father is the loving creator and sustainer of all things. He created us in His own image.

  • God the Son

Jesus Christ is eternally God. He was together with the Father and the Holy Spirit from the beginning, and through Him all things were made. For man to be restored to his relationship with God, Jesus left heaven and became a man in order that He might die for our sins.

  • God the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit was sent to dwell in the people of God after Jesus rose from the dead, appeared to his followers, and then returned to heaven. He empowers the followers of Jesus to serve others and to demonstrate God’s love to every man, woman, and child. The presence of the Holy Spirit is displayed by the fruit of godly character and by the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit.

3. WHAT IS OUR PROBLEM?

We believe that all of us were created in the image of God and were created to have fellowship with Him forever; but we have been separated from Him by choosing our own way. As a result, we can regain a renewed relationship with God only by God’s own action, that is, through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Jesus took our place in death that we might become children of God in a whole new way of life. He willingly took our place in death that we might joyfully receive new fellowship with God in life.

Until we receive God’s action on our behalf, we remain apart from Him, broken in our rebellion and self-determination. Although we were created in God’s image and designed to be eternal beings, we have become living ruins, far less than God had planned.

4. HOW DOES GOD HELP US?

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:3-6, 16-17 NLT)

The action of God in the death and resurrection of Jesus restores us again to fellowship with God and restores us again to our eternal hope of having a place in the kingdom of God.

5. HOW WILL THIS AFFECT MY LIFE?

“For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14:17 NLT)

Living a life as Jesus taught us is learning to have good relationships so that we enjoy the peace that comes with loving one another. Then we experience the joy that comes from God Himself. Three great results come from living in God’s way: good relationships, peace and joy.

Knowing this, we acknowledge that we are all still learning to live in righteousness (that is, Us right with God, us right with one another, and us right with our material world around us. Think of it this way: righteousness is “right us-ness”).

6. WHY DO WE NEED TO BE A PART OF A CHURCH?

In the very beginning, God said, “It is not good for man to be alone.” (Gen. 2:18)

God created us to be social creatures. He created us so that he can be with us and so that we can be with each other.

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” (John 13:34-35)

Jesus gave us one primary commandment: to love one another.

It is simply impossible to love others without being with them.

“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another. . .” (Hebrews 10:25)

You need to be encouraged and others need you to encourage them.
